Ghana West African Examination Council (WAEC) Installs Camera To Monitor Exam Questions Printing House

West African Examination Council (WAEC) has beefed-up security by installing closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras at its printing house, to monitor the printing of examination papers.

The move is aimed at preventing leakage of question papers ahead of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which starts on Monday June 17 across the country.

Mr Patrick Sumailar Wayoe, Sekondi Branch Controller of WAEC, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi on Tuesday.

He said WAEC, in the past had been plagued with leakage of examination papers, which resulted in financial burden to undertake reprinting of cancelled exams papers.

He urged examination supervisors and invigilators to maintain high level integrity and vigilance throughout the conduct of the BECE to maintain the credibility of the exams.

Mr Wayoe said WAEC had registered 39,086 candidates in the Western Region, made up of 21,123 males and 17,965 females for the exams.

The exams would be written at 134 examination centres with 1,372 invigilators and 134 supervisors to supervise the smooth conduct of the exercise in the Region.

The candidates would write the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Basic Design and Technology, Religious and Moral Education, Ghanaian Language and French (optional).
