ASUU Strike: UNIJOS Students Want Landlords To Slash Rent

Students of University of Jos have appealed to landlords to collect only 50 percent of rent owed students living off campus. The President of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the institution, Mr Ajik Magaji, made the call in Jos, while speaking to newsmen.

Mr. Magaji noted that students staying off campus have stayed away from their accommodation for six months due to the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

“On behalf of the affected students, I am appealing to landlords to slash their rents by 50 per cent on compassionate grounds,” he said.

He also called on the management of the institution to reopen the school in January 2014 to enable students celebrate the Christmas and New Year festivities with their love ones.

He said, “Although we are happy that ASUU has called off the strike but we are advising the university authority to reopened in January next year because of the yuletide.”

When contacted, Deputy Registrar Information of the institution, Mr. Steve Otowo, said the university management will meet and strategies for the next line of action and will communicate to all stakeholders. Source: Daily Trust Newspaper
