Kaduna Students To Write NECO Free

Kaduna State Students to Write NECO Free

Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State has approved N100million for the registration of students of the state for this year’s National Examination Council (NECO) examinations, just as N450million was also set aside for scholarships in local institutions.

The Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali, disclosed this while distributing textbooks and library materials to schools in Kaduna yesterday, saying the gesture would help reduce the number of secondary school drop-out as a result of inability to pay examination fees.

According to him, about N86million was earmarked for NECO registration last year but the increase this year came as a result of rising population.

The commissioner said the governor also approved N90million for the purchase of computer science equipment for senior secondary schools, noting that distribution will commence by the end of next month.

“A committee has been constituted to assess and improve the allowances of students. You cannot expect a student to get about N5,000 or N8,000 as scholarship for a whole session. The committee has almost concluded its review of the allowances,” he said.

In another development, the governor yesterday gave an assistance of N3million to traders who were affected by fire at Kasuwar Barchi in Tudun Wada to enable them revive their businesses.

It would be recalled that a fire incident destroyed property worth millions of naira at the market on January 29, 2014. Addressing the traders and traditional leaders in Tudun Wada Kaduna , the Director-General Media and Publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the money was given as an assistance and not a compensation. Responding, the District Head of Sabon Gari, Alhaji Yau Kachalla thanked the State government for the gesture which he said would help affected traders resume their businesses.
