Niger Government Plans To Stop Payment Of WAEC & NECO Debt Over Mass Failure

The Niger state government are planning to stop the proposed payment of the prospective candidates examination fees to the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and to the National Examination Council(NECO). The State is still owing these body a combined N500 million as examination fees.

The Governor of the State, Bello Abubakar said the government might cease to pay for prospective student’s WAEC And NECO examination fees due to the mass failure which is received on a regularly basis.

The Governor has assured the councils that the sate would pay the outstanding debt of N500 million owed for the last examinations which would trigger the release of outstanding results of candidates

“Instead of throwing away N800 million on examination fees without any corresponding results, this same money could as well be channeled to renovation of schools, provision of learning equipment and rehabilitation of teachers’ quarters to make them more comfortable to put in their best in teaching.”
