520 Teachers Possess Fake Certificates In Kogi

Kogi State Universal Education Board, SUBEB, has made a rattling revelation that about 520 teachers employed by the State Government for the primary school sector possessed fake certificates.

The Chairman of the board, Alhaji Usman Jibrin disclosed this to the House of Assembly Committee on Education during the appraisal of the 2013 budget and the 2014 budget defence at the State House of Assembly complex.

Jibrin while commenting on the qualities of the teachers in the employment of the SUBEB said the Board discovered the figures during the ongoing certificate verification exercise.

He, however, assured the House committee that affected teachers with the fake certificates will soon be shown the way out after the completion of the verification exercise.

The SUBEB chairman also revealed that the delay in the payment of teachers’ salaries was caused by the Education Secretaries who made undue interference and illegal deduction in the teachers’ salaries.

He, however, hinted that arrangements are ongoing to introduce the e-payment system in order to forestall the influence of Education Secretaries in the payment of teachers’ salary

“With the e-payment, all illegal deductions from the teachers’ salaries will henceforth stop as Education Secretaries will have no access to tamper with the salaries of  teachers.”

He said teachers have been directed to go and open an account with banks to enable them flow with the new development in the system. Source: Vanguard Newspaper
