Shettima said this initiative was part of the government’s `Conditional Cash Transfer’ scheme for poor households.

He said that the objective of the scheme was to ensure that parents sent their children to school rather than allow them roam the streets.

He blamed the Boko Haram insurgency for the poverty and ignorance in the state, adding that it disrupted the socio-economic activities in the state; and urged parents to send their children parents to school to safeguard their future.

He said government was also working on plans to reconstruct the 825 classrooms destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents, to prepare grounds for the commencement of academic programmes in the affected schools

Responding, the chairman of the elders, Ahmed Yusufari, thanked Shettima for the visit.

  1. It is a welcome development, especially in a state where some fundamentalists are campaigning against Western education; yet they are enjoying infrastructural facilities brought about by western education. The state govt should ensure that what they pay to these parents together with effective enlightenment campaign outweighs what the insurgents would offer their children to carry guns and improvised explosive devices.

  2. It a welcome development… The people needs to be encouraged, the people needs more orientation. God bless Gov. Shetima and inrease him in his wisdom, guidance and protection, God bless the Government of Borno State, God bless and change the mentality and the people of Borno State, God bless Nigeria. Surely we must over come.

  3. My sincere heart goes to the Gov. Shattima, children, parent and the good peoole of Borno State who sincerely preaches and practice peace. Effort of the gov. should be encouraged. There must be enough public enlightenment , change of mindset, strategies and approache. The People of Borno must rise and say No to Boko Haram, No to ethnic and religious violent, No to their sponsores after-all these people are not spirit. We must rise and take our destiny in our hand. Nigeria must survive. Amen. God bls the people of Borno state. God bls Nigeria. Treasure.
