Cameroon, Sierra Leone Write Nigeria On How To Improve University Education

Two African countries, Cameroon and Sierra Leone, have written the Federal Government seeking to share ideas on how Nigerian university system is being administered.

The National Universities Commission Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie, stated this on Monday in Abuja while reacting to claims that Nigerian universities’ products were not employable.

Okojie, who also insisted that Nigerian graduates were among the best in the world as shown in their performance overseas, said the system back home prepared them for any challenge.

According to him, the Cameroonian Minister of Education and his Sierra Leonean counterpart have written to the NUC to guide them in establishing an equivalent of the Commission in their countries.

He said, “They are asking us how can they do it right. We have the structure even though we are on strike today; they have seen that the structure works. For those who are following the system the 6-3-3-4 system, we have the Ministry of Education and we have the regulatory body. We are looking at how the system works.

“Sierra Leone, particularly is asking how to establish a regulatory body like this, especially as it has a few universities. The country wants to know how we control our quality.” Via: PunchNG
