Adeniran Ogunsanya College Of Education Gets New Provost

Doctor of Mathematics, (Mrs.) Ladele Omolola Aina, Tuesday assumed duty as the 8th substantive provost of Adeniran Ogunsanya College Of Education (AOCOED), Otto/Ijanikin, Lagos State. A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said Aina’s appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of Mr. Wasiu Olalekan Bashorun, on July 31st, 2015.

Before her appointment, Deputy Provost, Mr. Ebenezer Oluwole Ajose, held sway in acting capacity and was in office since August 6th, 2015.

Meet AOCOED New Provost

Born on May 16, 1963, Aina, who hails from Lagos Island, started her academic pursuits at the Yewande Memorial Nursery/Primary School, Surulere, Lagos and later enrolled at St. Anne’s School, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State for her secondary education.

He quest for tertiary education commenced with a three-year sojourn at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Kwara State, from 1978 to 1981, where she obtained a National Certificate in Education (NCE) in Mathematics (Distinction) and Geography. She thereafter studied Mathematics at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.

 She later obtained her Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction Mathematics at the University of Lagos, Lagos before proceeding to Edith Cowan University Perth, Western Australia, where she bagged her Doctorate Degree in Mathematics Education.

Aina joined the services of AOCOED on July 4th, 1990 as a Lecturer II in the Department of Mathematics. She rose to the post of a Chief Lecturer in October 2003. Some of the offices she has held at the college include: Head of Mathematics Department from 1991 to 1996; director, Directorate of Degree Programme (2008-2010); Sub-Dean, Student Affairs (1996-2002); Director of Administration, Applied Scholastic Nigeria Limited, AOCOD (2006-2015); chairperson, Committee on Transformation of AOCOED into University of Education (2008); Editor-in-Chief, Sandwich Education Review (2008-2010); Editor-in-Chief, Lagos Journal of Science Education from 2015 till date; member, College Academic Board (1994-1996 and 2003 till date); member, Committee on Financial Situation of the College (2015) among other academic and administrative experiences within and outside the college.

Aina, who is a member of several professionals and academic bodies some of which are: Institute of Chartered Mediator and Conciliators; Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria; Mathematics Association of Nigeria; Mathematics Education Research Group of Australia; Teacher’s Registration Council of Nigeria; Women in Colleges of Education etc, has written so many books on mathematics teaching and methodology.

She is also a member of several academic and professional bodies
