ASUU Can’t Cancel Post-UTME, Candidates Not Institutions’ Students Yet – FUTMINNA DVC

The DVC (Academic), of FUTMINNA Prof. Abdullahi Bala said the University recognized the fact that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are on strike but the Post-UTME screening exercise is on because admission process is not the responsibility of ASUU.

Every academic staff has three mandates; teaching, research and community service and ASUU has only withdrawn the teaching component of it”, Prof. Bala stated.

He added that the candidates are not yet students of FUT, Minna and ASUU cannot lay claim to them until when they are admitted and matriculated.

Federal University of Technology, Minna today commenced the 2013/2014 Pre-Admission Screening Exercise (UPASE), hitherto referred to as Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination at the University Main Campus amidst orderliness.

While inspecting the University Electronic Test Centre (ETC), the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, who was accompanied by other Management staff, commended the Committee for the preparations, orderliness and logistics put in place for the examination.

Prof. Akanji said the computers that would be used for the Computer-Based Test are all in perfect state and expressed optimism that the institution would conduct a hitch free Post-UTME.

In a related development, while addressing In a related development, while addressing journalists who were in the campus to observe the exercise, the DVC (Academic), Prof. Abdullahi Bala said the University recognized the fact that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are on strike but the Post-UTME screening exercise is on because admission process is not the responsibility of ASUU.

“Every academic staff has three mandates; teaching, research and community service and ASUU has only withdrawn the teaching component of it”, Prof. Bala stated.

On the threat by FUT, Minna Chapter of ASUU that the students would not be recognized if the University proceeds with the Post-UTME, Prof. Bala said the candidates are not yet students of FUT, Minna and ASUU cannot lay claim to them until when they are admitted and matriculated.

He further stated that the Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Admission Officer of the University and has the right to conduct screening and admission as at when due.

He charged journalists to be more responsible in discharging their professional duties. 

The Post-UTME will end on the 6th of August, 2013 for candidates who chose FUT, Minna as their first and second choice.

So far, the exercise has been hitch free and about 5,000 candidates are expected to participate in the screening. Mean while, the screening for Direct Entry candidates will commence on the 11th-12th of September, 2013.
