ASUU Strike Update : ASUU Orders Members In Universities To Reject Post-UTME Results

Latest Update on July 2013 ASUU Strike – Surely, the last has not been heard on the controversy surrounding the 2013 Post-UTME Screening exercises conducted by many Universities as ASUU threatened to reject the results of the screening exercises.

Recall that we reported to you yesterday that the DVC (Academics) of FUTMINNA claimed ASUU has no power to do such a thing as Admission process in a University has nothing to do wit ASUU. He also claimed that the candidates are not yet students of institutions, hence ASUU has no say on them. You can read the details of that in this post : ASUU Can’t Cancel Post-UTME, Candidates Not Institutions’ Students Yet – FUTMINNA DVC.

ASUU has however formally instructed her members to reject the candidates and results of all conducted Post-UTME Screenings in Universities:

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has asked its members in the institutions where post-UME examinations were conducted during the ongoing strike, to reject the results and admission of candidates.

This information was passed across in Strike Bulletins five and three, which was signed by its National President, Dr. Nasir Isa.

In the bulletin, the Union recommended that members who took part in the exercise, should be queried and reported to the National Strike Coordinating Committee.

The bulletin read in part: “Members are hereby mandated immediately to query members who have broken the ongoing strike by participating in post-UTME screening, attendance of meetings including Council meeting, retreat of Governing Council in Abuja etc. A copy of the query should be sent to NSCC.

“Our union insists that post-UTME screening is, for all intents and purposes an examination. Our members through senate must reject admission of students with such examinations that have not been appropriately supervised by academics.”

ASUU also took a shot at the National Universities Commission, accusing it of threatening Vice-Chancellors of Universities with accreditation, while the strike is on.

“Prevail on our VCs to resist the antics and gimmicks of the NUC Secretary. Do not be used to embark on any sham accreditation during the period of the national strike. Our union will do everything possible to nullify and such accreditation conducted within the period of the strike,” he continued.

“NUC has recently made essentially false publications meant to distort the goal of our strike, and has organised sham accreditation visits to the University of Abuja. Our Union has condemned the damaging role of NUC in the university system and has resolved to expose the dramatis personae in the persistence of unpatriotic dispositions at play.”
