COEASU Strike Update: Lecturers Meet July 1 to Decide

The latest COEASU Strike news update is that Colleges of Education lecturers will meet onĀ  1st July, 2014 to review and decide on the strike. The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union is six-month-old and there is no indication on whether it will be called off soon.

COEASU Strike Update

The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), on Thursday, said it would hold its National Executive Council meeting on July 1 to take final position on its six-month-old strike.

The COEASU Chairman, Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka chapter, Lagos, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

According to him, all the union chapter chairmen have been summoned to converge in Abuja for a meeting on Tuesday.

ā€œThe meeting will focus on reviewing and updating members on the level of discussion with the government toward ending the strike.

ā€œAfter the meeting, we will take a decisive position on the strike,ā€™ā€™ he said.

Taiwo said the meeting between the union and the representatives of the Federal Government earlier scheduled to hold on June 24 was postponed till next week.

ā€œThe union has held series of meeting with the government but could not reach a logical conclusion,ā€™ā€™ he said.

The chairman urged the Federal Government to be more committed to meeting the demands of the union toward ending the strike.

ā€œWe want serious commitment from the Federal Government before we call off the strike.

ā€œIt does not worth it to call off the strike after a long time without any commitment from the government,ā€™ā€™ he said.
