Covenant University Marks 12th Founders Day

On October 21,2014, Covenant University marked its 12th founders day. As part of activities to celebrate the event which also doubled as the 12th anniversary of the University, the Founder’s day celebration in Covenant University was marked with the presence of the Chancellor Bishop David Oyedepo,Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Taiwo Abioye, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan, the Resident Pastor, Living Faith Church Worldwide, Pastor Ubong Ntia, Directors, Deans of Colleges and Postgraduate School, Deputy Deans of Schools and Heads of Departments. The events which commenced around  8am at the school chapel was marked with so much importance,inspiring messages and acknowledgment.

Faculty, staff and students of Covenant University were  been urged to do the impossible, dare the undarable and create solutions to existing problems. This was the message of the Chancellor, Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo at the 12th Founder’s Day Service on Tuesday, October 21, 2014

The Chancellor stated further that nothing defines destiny like mentality. “It is possibility mentality that makes a star” he said. He also enjoined everyone to embrace the Core Value of Possibility Mentality in order to maximize the potentials God has deposited in them, adding that the essence of possibility mentality was to deliver one’s mind from slavery.

Dr. Oyedepo advised the University Community to engage the equal virtues of opportunity and destiny. “When you concentrate on what you need, you become a slave to those who create it. Everyone should be conscious of his or her ability to create solutions”, he said.

He also highlighted commitment as a key factor in making the most of one’s life. According to him, there is no problem without a solution and that is the essence of Covenant University.

The Chancellor attributed his success in life to early discovery. He, therefore, encouraged the assembly to discover and believe in themselves. “Discover and deliver yourself”, he said.

The Registrar, Covenant University, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, earlier in his welcome remarks stated that the purpose of the celebration was to glorify God, acknowledge His faithfulness and renew the vision of raising a new generation of leaders.

Also speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor Charles Ayo, enumerated the numerous achievements, positive recognitions, awards and innovations of the University over the past one year.

These, according to him, include the

* Disciplined atmosphere for Learning- 60%

* Infrastructural facilities; internet, power supply- 80%

* Volume of Curricula,Review of Curriculum (academic handbooks)- 80%

* Redefining Research Focus- 50%

* Citations, Quality Research-60% (we currently have 800 publications)

* Collaboration of Academic Linkages,International Linkages, e.g full-bright scholar from USA

* Starting a Staff development program

* Income; Industry and innovation

* Nobel Laureates in Alumni base

* Awards, Distant Learning; the University will soon start distant learning programs in Leadership and Entrepreneurship and also part-time learning in courses like BFN, Comp sci and Mis.

* Starting of a paper recycling plant and a fermented rice production plant for people with diabetes.

* 2014 Covenant University International Conference on African Development Issues (CU-ICADI),

*  Centenary ICT Driven University Award,

* Most Preferred Private University Award

* commissioning of Video Conferencing Centre and Covenant University Integrated Dual Electric Automobile, two cars and tricycle, which are now in use to generate revenue for the University. He promised that innovation, impact and internalization would be driven with passion to obtain maximum result.

From the Alumni platform, Mr Stephen Oluwatobi congratulated the Covenant University community for the journey thus far, adding that God has proved Himself faithful. He said 12 years is a foundation to build on and he knew that years ahead would be better.

While acknowledging the faithfulness of God, an Alumnus of the University, Mr. Seyi Omisore, testified that seven years ago, he found his place of relevance by the help of God. “God has used me to start a reality Television Show, the Fattest Shedder” he said.

According to him, Covenant University contributed to his success in life through different experiences and activities, one of which was the Total Man Concept (TMC) jogging. He, therefore, advised the students to endure the pain now and enjoy the gain later. “You are in the right place” he added.

While addressing the assembly, the Students’ Council Chairman, Mr. Tolu Omoluyi, said Covenant University students have been known to be exceptionally unique in their various fields. He stated further that he had the opportunity to represent the University abroad and realized that the achievements of Covenant University supersede those of some universities overseas. Aniebet Abasiudoh a 500 Level student of Engineering, has over 30 certifications of which Java is included. All these are pointers to the fact that Covenant University is not only raising eagles but also committed to providing solutions to the country’s challenges.

Highpoints of the event included the commissioning of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development Studies and Covenant University Ultra Mordern Health Centre.
