Differences Between Public And Private Universities In Nigeria – Bells VC

Vice-Chancellor of the Bells University of Technology, Prof. Isaac Adeyemi tells MOTUNRAYO JOEL of PUNCH Newspaper that poor policy on importation is one of the reasons for the collapse of Nigerian Agricultural industry and also highlights the differences between Public And Private Universities In Nigeria.

Excerpts from PUNCH-NG

What are the differences between public and private universities in Nigeria?

I’ve had the opportunity to teach in public and private universities and I realised that things are done differently in both institutions.

The administration of private universities is concise. For example, students who enrol for a four-year programme are sure of completing the programme within the specified period.

The staff to student ratio in private universities is low compared to that of public universities. Also, there is better service delivery and the measure of discipline is better in private universities. On that equation, one can say that private universities stand an advantage.

However, people say public universities have better lecturers, but private universities now have mature lecturers and professors as well. I will not subscribe completely to the notion that private universities are better than public, but I will say they are better managed.
