Edo State Govt Moves Against Ghost Workers In Public Schools

Edo State Government has moved against Ghost Workers In Public Schools – The Chairman, Edo State Committee on Education, Mr Mayaiki John, on Monday re-stated the state government’s commitment to get rid of ghost workers in public primary and secondary schools.

John made the commitment during the committee’s assessment tour of government schools in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the committee was in the area to assess the quality of personnel in the 71 primary schools and 28 secondary schools in the area with a view to update the staff and teachers’ data on government’s payroll.

He said that the idea became imperative following the discovery of ghost workers and teachers in government payroll.

“We are on assessment tour of government schools in the state in order for us to salvage the education sector.

“The aim of the committee is to locate all government schools in the area to know the number of students as well as teachers on government’s payroll amongst others,’’ he said.

The committee chairman also said that the committee’s mandate included making recommendation to government on the quality of intervention needed in various schools.

Also speaking, the chairman of the council, Mr Joseph Akerejola, pledged to update the committee with necessary information on schools in the area.

He identified manpower and infrastructure as prominent areas schools in the area needed government’s intervention.

“I am ready to give full support to the committee by making available vital document that would aid your job,’’ he said.

The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the governor after the assessment tour of schools in the state. (NAN)
