College of Edu Governing Council Member Rejects Appointment, Deems It Demeaning

A newly appointed College of Education, Ikere Ekiti Governing Council member has rejected his appointment as he brands it demeaning. The former member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Dayo Okondo, has rejected his appointment by the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as a member of the Governing Council of the college. The rejection came shortly after the governor announced the list of the appointees on state radio, Friday.

He said he was not contacted before his name was announced over the radio, and noted that the appointment was not befitting of his status as a former member of the BOT of the PDP.

Mr. Okondo, apparently displeased by the appointment, told journalists in Ado-Ekiti, that the appointment was “demeaning”.

But Mr. Fayose had on Wednesday told newly appointed commissioners that whoever was not pleased with the he appointment could reject it, and that the slot would be assigned to another person.

Mr. Okondo said, “Making me a board member falls short of what he should do and if I have to take care of myself very well and take care of my health, I don’t know of what use the membership of the College Board would do for me.

“I can’t see how somebody who had served as a PDP Board of Trustees member will now be appointed a College Board member. I was shocked by the appointment with my status and level of work that I did,” he said.

“I brought the party to the state and I brought Fayose into the party. I supported him wholeheartedly when others refused to support him and I ensured that he won the primaries and the election (in 2003).”
