Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State on Monday shut the institution following a student’s protest.

The students, mainly part-time students of the institution, were protesting against increment in their tuition from N9, 000 to N34, 000.

They carried placards with such inscriptions as “We aren’t money making machines,” “Reduce our school fees,” and “Bring down our fees”.

The Rector, Mrs. Theresa Akande, the protesters alleged, failed to keep to her promise that tuition in the school would be increased only once in four years.

But confirming the closure of the school, the Deputy Registrar (Information), Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu, said the action followed the student’s protest.

Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu, while speaking to journalists on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, said, “They are not our regular students but part-time students just resuming. They are not supposed to unionise. However, the management is talking with them.”
