About the FIJ Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship
The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, has launched the 2025 edition of the Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship. The fellowship honors the legacy of Adejumobi Adegbite, a respected Nigerian journalist and former U.S. Consulate Information Specialist who passed away in July 2023.
The initiative is designed to equip young journalists with advanced skills in investigative, data-driven, and multimedia journalism, fostering a new generation of ethical and courageous reporters in Nigeria.
What the FIJ Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship Offers
Ten (10) successful applicants will receive:
- Mobile journalism equipment to aid field reporting
- Direct mentorship from leading investigative journalists
- Editorial support to publish original investigations that uphold transparency and accountability
- Access to training sessions, both virtual and in-person
This is an intensive year-long commitment that combines practical exposure with professional development.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the FIJ Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship 2025, applicants must:
- Be Nigerian citizens residing in Nigeria
- Have five years or less experience in journalism
- Be currently working as a journalist—whether full-time, part-time, freelance, or as an intern
- Not have participated in any previous U.S. government-sponsored exchange program
- Submit two published investigative stories (between May 2023 and May 2025)
Note: Articles such as features, opinion pieces, or analyses will not be accepted as investigative entries.
Fellowship Schedule
Shortlisted applicants must be available to attend the following:
- Opening session in Lagos (in-person)
- Two virtual sessions (via Zoom or a similar platform)
- Closing session at the end of the program (location to be confirmed)
All selected fellows are expected to participate fully in all sessions and meet reporting goals throughout the fellowship.
