The  Federal University of Agriculture is set to attain a conventional status in the coming days and the Management of theFederal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has expressed its readiness to become its teaching hospital when the Univesity kicks off its Medical program.

The Chief Medical Director of FMC, Abeokuta, Dr. Dapo Sotiloye, recalled the history of the establishment of the University College, which was initially meant to be sited in Abeokuta, but was relocated to Ibadan. He said he received the proposal of FUNAAB going conventional with joy, noting that with the personnel and equipment of FMC; it was easy for the University to run a standard Teaching Hospital, promising that “whatever is demanded of us within our powers, we would not hesitate to do it”.

While welcoming the FMC team, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, said the University has had the vision of going conventional for years, adding that merely going conventional was not enough but having the capability to create better access to higher education.

“Our vision is to contribute to the development of our people and one of the various ways that we want to do that is by ensuring that while agriculture remains the flagship of our University, we go into other areas of life that would promote development of our people”, Prof. Oyewole added. The University had already received a letter of support from Royal Fathers in Egbaland, adding that the Academic Planning Directorate of FUNAAB had also been directed to ensure the effective take-off of the conventional programmes to be run by University.

Present at the parley were Professor Waheed Adekojo, FUNAAB’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Dr. Dolapo Akisanya, Head, Clinical Services, FMC, Abeokuta.

The University is known for its high academic standards and we hope its able to maintain and improve on this standards when more courses are introduced.

We wish them goodluck!!!
