FUNAAB Gives Compulsory Mid-Semester Break After Death of 2 Students In Protest

The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta has given a compulsory Mid-Semester break for the 2016/2017 academic session. This directive came early yesterday morning from the Vice-Chancellor of the University about the break. Due to the outcome of the peaceful protest that turned out to be violent, causing 2 students to die in the process.

FUNAAB Protest Goes Violent

The protest held yesterday at the early hours of the day when students marched to the school gate from their homes off campus, protesting after a student was allegedly killed at night by armed robber after doing away with his personal belongings. The students have complained about the incessant robbery in time past, while the protest was going on, the Police came firing tear gas which killed an asthmatic student as if that was not enough they started shooting in the air which caused a stray bullet to kill another student.

This caused a serious uproar leading the students to fight back burning cars,beating people and as a result bringing about the compulsory mid-semester break.

The directive came this morning from the VC of the Institution Prof Oyewole who has declared a 7-day mid semester break starting from Thursday August 18th, 2016. Students are to vacate their hall of residence latest by 6pm.

Students are advised to stay clear of trouble during this 7-day break, any students caught causing trouble would face the music. Parents/Guardians are hereby informed about this development.
