The answer is a big YES. you should know Inter-University Transfer is currently also available In some Nigerian (if Not all) universities – both Government owned and Privately Owned. Theoretically, this means a student can transfer from any approved degree programme in a Nigerian University to the same or another Degree programme in another Approved University.

An Engineering student of University of Nigeria (UNN) for instance can transfer to the University of Ibadan (UI) to study Engineering via the Inter-University transfer forms. If such a student however does not meet the required minimum requirements to study engineering there, he/she could opt for another course the requirement meets.

Every listed institution has their respective requirements concerning transfers and candidates are highly advised to make contact with the admission office in the proposed selected University. However, the below listed requirements comply will all basic Inter-University transfer in Nigeria:

  • All newly admitted transfer students are always admitted into 200 Level and must have a strong C.G.P.A.
  • Transfer students must be ready to continue with the course they are studying or prepare for another course that meets requirement.
  • Each department has a UTME cut-off mark, and candidates should make sure their UTME requirements meet the University’s as well as Departmental Cut-off mark.

How Much Does The Form Cost

The cost of Inter-university forms vary from one institution to another. And as it is conversant with Nigerian Institutions there are no fixed prices and prices change. The best bet is to contact the university to verify and confirm the exact cost.

When Does The Form Come Out

The Inter-University Transfer Form usually coincides with the Direct Entry admission period of the institution and their admission list usually comes out together. The form usually comes out towards the end of the second semester of the institution and the admission list usually falls in the first semester period of the university.

How to and steps to go about Inter-University Transfer In Nigeria?

Finally, after the requirements are met the next thing is to finally apply and fill the Inter-University transfer forms. To begin your applications you need to note the below steps:

1. The first thing to do here is, you need to write to your school your intentions of transferring and reason. It is up to them to grant you an approval.

2. Once your move is granted by your parent institution, the University will then withhold your admission, which means that you cease to be a student of that University.

3. Finally, you can then make an application to your choice institution on your desire to be admitted.

NOTE: If your request for inter-University transfer is not granted, that is, not accepted by the University you are transferring to, you can only return to your former Institution as a fresher and not to continue as an undergraduate, regardless of your level before the transfer.

This simply means, as a 300 level student of the Lagos State University (LASU) and you apply for transfer to University of Ilorin (UNILORIN). If the move eventually fails, you are going to return to LASU as a 100 Level student and no longer as a 300 level student.
