IBM Lasgidi Hackathon 2013/2014 Challenge Application

This IBM Lasgidi Hackathon 2013/2014 Challenge comprehensive details and information on how to apply.

The IBM Lasgidi Hackathon event is being hosted in partnership with academic institutions in Lagos, Nigeria and its environs with sponsorship from our strategic partners in Nigeria and the Africa region (Airtel, CCHUB and others). This IBM Innovation Agenda event is designed to help promote and foster an innovation culture in Nigeria, and is truly a first-of-a-kind for IBM in the Africa region. The event themes are Mobile Payments and Smarter Government, with specific hackathon challenges intended to address important business and social topics in Nigeria through innovation.

It will engage clients, key civic and industry leaders, and, importantly, the student population through our partnership with academia. The importance of this engagement is reflected in the inclusion of the training, education and certification components as well as the hackathon event.

The IBM Lasgidi Hackathon will enable and encourage students to build mobile applications that run on mobile devices, compete for innovation grants, and develop new skills. Our coding competition will introduce them to IBM’s latest leading technology tools and frameworks to help build smarter and faster.

Students are welcome to code in any language they prefer for back-end functionality, but any user interface must be either a native mobile application or viewable in a stock mobile browser in order to be eligible to compete for innovation grants. Engineers from IBM and its innovation partners will be on site throughout the hackathon event to help teams (maximum of six members each) build their applications and solve any problems they may encounter.

In addition, IBM will offer free certification testing on Big Data technology for students participating in the Lasgidi Hackathon event. This proctored technical mastery test examines InfoSphere BigInsights technical knowledge regarding the ability to identify, manage and close sales opportunities. The test is targeted at technical professionals who can deliver a comprehensive business solution to customers through solution identification, product differentiation, and competitive positioning. It is strongly advised that students complete the recommended education prior to attempting this mastery test. Students with a passing grade will be awarded IBM certificates.
