Institute of Management and Technology : Students Tackle IMT On Admission Crisis

Over 90 students of the Institute of Management of Technology, Enugu, on Saturday protested against alleged withdrawal of their admission by the authorities of the institution.

The angry students, who are of the Department of Computer Science, marched from the campus of the state-owned polytechnic to the Enugu Government House.

They alleged that several months after they were offered admission by the institution, the Head of Department of the Computer Science, Mrs. M. Okorie, had stopped them from obtaining their registration numbers.

The protesting students explained that no reason had been given for their current travails, even after they had paid all the relevant fees, including first year registration and school fees.

In a protest letter to Enugu State Governor Sullivan Chime, the students stated that they were duly offered admission by the institution and pleaded with the governor to come to their aid before their semester examination kicks off in less than one week.

“Look at our admission letters and receipt of schools fees,” one of them said as the students displayed their admission letters and receipts of fees they had already paid.

The students told journalists, “They have refused to give over 90 of us registration numbers and up till now, no explanation has been given for this. We only heard from the gtake advantage ofvine that the HOD said that registration numbers had been issued to the number of students the department can take.

“Our question then is why did they offer us admission when they knew they would not take us? Why did they allow us to pay school fees when they knew they would not issue us with registration numbers? There is no way we can write exam without registration number.

“So, we are appealing to the good Governor of Enugu State to come to our aid. We know how our parents suffered to get this money. We appeal to the government to intervene and stop this evil.”

Chime’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Chukwudi Achife, who addressed the students, assured them that government would look into the matter and ensure that justice was done.
