The Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has said there will be no march past by students on Independence Day anniversary celebration on October 1.

Chairman of NUT, Mr Olusegun Raheem, made this known in an interview in Lagos yesterday.

Raheem said the decision was because the union had not received any directive from the state government to mobilise students for the occasion.

According to him, the students would have been mobilised for the march past, “but we have not received any word from the government till now to that effect.”

Raheem said that the state government might probably have alternative plans to make the event low key as it has been the practice in the last three years.
