NNPC To Strengthen Partnership With IBBUL On Renewable Energy

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), according to IBBUL management, is looking into the possibility of upgrading the findings of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) in respect of the research on oil and gas exploration in the Bida and Sokoto basins.

As revealed on the institutions official website, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru made this known when a team from IBB University led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Mohammed K. Santuraki paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday.

NNPC will be taking the school’s research on the Bida and Sokoto basins, renewable energy to the next phase after the school submitted the research results to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) management who have picked further interest in the research findings.

Dr. Baru said the Corporation was delighted with the report as submitted by the University and that having successfully completed the first assignment, it is natural that the second segment begun. He maintained that the advantage of working with an institution like IBB University was the development of home based capacity for utilization.

He stressed that a lot of speculations which were riped on the Bida Basin have now been put to rest with the research by the formidable team from IBBU, adding that usually, where the expertise are available, the closest higher institution of learning is used for the study.

The Group Managing Director congratulated IBB University for starting research on renewable energies and promised the continued support and cooperation of the Corporation to the University.

Speaking earlier, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Mohammed K. Santuraki said the team was on the visit to express gratitude to the Corporation for the oppurtunity to undertake the research on the Bida and Sokoto basins.

He said being a relatively new university, IBB University chose two areas of research, namely, agriculture and mineral and oil exploration, which have so far been developed.

The Council Chairman further disclosed that a team from the University has gone to train farmers in Uganda on organic agriculture, adding that the Raw Material Research and Development Council has engaged the University on the characterisation of mineral deposits in Niger State.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare said that the visit to the Corporation was to thank the Management of NNPC and to further seek for more areas of co-operation.

He sought for the collaboration of the Corporation in strengthening the geological programme at the University stressing that the institution has keyed into the Federal Government’s technological agenda and wished to sustain it.

The Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the staff and students of IBBUL requested from the NNPC, a befitting geological laboratory and a field vehicle for staff and students’ field studies.

On the team for the visit included the Director, Research Centre, Professor George Nuhu Obaje; University Bursar, Malam Abdul Garba; Directors of Academic Planning and Consultancy Services, Dr. Mohammed Aliyu Paiko and Mallam Suleiman Liman.
