NOUN-ACETEL Scholarship for Postgraduate Study

The NOUN-ACETEL scholarship for postgraduate students allow winners to study ICT courses at the National Open University of Nigeria. With this scholarship award, you can study ICT certificate courses and at Masters and Doctorate levels. This article provide application details (how to apply), requirements and eligible ICT courses – in other words, courses you can study with this scholarship.

Applications are invited from eligible candidates to apply for the ACETEL scholarship for studying Information Technology courses at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

About NOUN-ACETEL Scholarship

The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) is a World Bank, Association of African Universities, and Nigeria’s National Universities Commission supported regional center of excellence with a focus on human capacity development and research into digital solutions that will enable technology use in education.

The Center offers scholarships to postgraduate applicants for short-term professional training in ICT as well as for higher degree studies in ACETEL at the master’s and doctoral levels.

NOUN-ACETEL Postgraduate Scholarship Value?

A laptop, data, and access to virtual labs and libraries will be provided as this is an open and remote learning university. Where appropriate, visits for research and education will be facilitated. Studies will be adaptable to learners’ needs, especially female learners. There will be a provision for exams to be given on demand, and students will be able to take them in the comfort of their homes.

The scholarship budget is valued at $3000 for Masters students, $4000 for Doctorate Degree students and $100 for Short Courses.

Number of Scholarships

Ten (10) for Masters students, Five (5) for Doctorate Degree students and Forty (40) for Short courses annually.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply for NOUN-ACETEL Scholarship?

To be considered for a NOUN-ACETEL postgraduate scholarship or short course award, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Citizen of African country
  • Minimum academic requirement: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent for Masters and Doctorate Degrees, or a minimum of 5 credits at O’levels for short courses
  • Demonstrate a clear vision of how the knowledge and training gained through the scholarship will be used to improve reform in their home countries
  • Satisfactory English or French proficiency to enable full participation in a training course delivered in English or French
  • Satisfy all requirements of the Nigerian Government for the appropriate student visa.

Target Group

  • Nationals of African Countries especially countries within the West African sub-region (:Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte D’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Helena, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo) are encouraged to apply. Females of such countries are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and will be given priority
  • Professionals working in the Public Sector, the Private Sector or a Non-Governmental Organisation (Civil Society).
  • Qualified candidate who wishes to undertake a Masters degree or Doctorate degree in one of the listed priority fields of study.
  • To have a clear vision on how you will use the knowledge and training gained through the programme to improve reform in the proposed field of study.

Scholarships Application Process

The application window will be thirty days (one month). Applications will be acknowledged once submitted. Responses to applications will be sent to candidates via email within one month of the closing date of the advertisement.

Selection Process: Criteria and Requirements

ACETEL scholarships are highly competitive and only applicants who are outstanding across board are selected.

A selection committee will be constituted to assess applications using the following criteria;

  • Academic merit as evidenced by quality of degrees, full academic transcripts, and relevant publications to be referenced by applicants
  • The viability of the study/research plan (PhD Applicants only).
  • Applicants are required to make a case for their scholarship by submitting a statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) they want to undertake the study, and its expected impact on national development (MSc Applicants only).

Requirements for Application:

Short Courses:

Possession of five (5) O/level credits or its equivalent, including English or French Language.

Master’s Degree (MSc):

  1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in the first degree or its equivalent
  2. Possession of five (5) O/level credits or its equivalent, including English or French language.

PhD:

  1. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) or its equivalent in their first degree and CGPA of 4.5 at MSc.
  2. Must submit a research proposal (of not more than five (5) pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection
  3. Possession of five (5) O/level credits or its equivalent, including English or French language.

Required Documents for NOUN-ACETEL Scholarship

Applicants are advised to scan copies of all relevant academic documents and attach to their online application form.

Terms and Conditions of Scholarship:

A scholarship recipient is required to have their GPA at or above 4.5. The scholarship’s available funds must only be used for the stated purpose (Registration, examination, research, publication, data, laptop etc). Scholarship recipients are required to complete their studies within the minimal time frame allotted for the program.
