Obasanjo Urges Varsities To Subsidize Fees for Female Students

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Universities in Nigeria to subsidize tuition fees for female students studying in the institutions of learning. The former president argued that this will help in achieving gender balance and egalitarian development in education and other sectors in Nigeria.

The former president of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerian universities to subsidize the tuition fees for female students towards achieving gender balance and egalitarian development in education, social and economic sectors of the country.

He also called on leaders at all levels to adequately fund the education sector for better economic and human development.

Chief Obasanjo stated this while speaking at the maiden students’ matriculation ceremony of the Jigawa State University Kafin-Hausa held at the weekend.

He said for any society to develop, priority must be accorded to training and developing the talents of its human resources through the provision of accessible and qualitative education for all.

Obasanso noted that there was an urgent need to adequately fund Nigerian universities to enable them purchase modern facilities and services to meet with global standard and contemporary challenges.

Mr Obasanjo, who was also appointed as the pioneer chancellor of the university, urged the university to open its doors and give opportunities to people beyond the state for comprehensive development of the institution.

He then commended Governor Sule Lamido for his passionate love and commitment to the development of education sector and selfless service to humanity.
