Passport Intervention Exercise at Nigerian Embassy (USA) 2022

There is an ongoing passport intervention exercise at the Nigerian Embassy in the United States of America (USA). This article will share the information, schedule (dates), US states and the phone numbers you can contact.

You may have seen the flyer going round that the Nigerian embassy in the US is conducting an intervention exercise. If you haven’t, check the image below. However, the communique does not go into details of what it means. Honestly, we are not sure either. In light of this, the article will attempt to share more information from the flyer and the US Embassy website and what interested persons should do.

This is for all Nigerian students studying in the United States and looking to renew their passport. People that are not students can take advantage of this intervention, too. However, because this is NGScholars, our target audience are students.

What is this Nigerian Passport Intervention Exercise?

The communique from the Nigerian Embassy is not very clear about this part but here is what we found out: People who have applied for passport renewal or replacement will have the opportunity to have their biometrics taken.

Usually when you pay for a passport renewal, you may get a biometric capturing date that is 3-6 months away. See the image below to see all the dates that are not available (no date until February, 2023). This long wait is on top of the 3-month wait before getting your new passport after capturing.

This intervention will allow anyone who had applied for a renewal before July to come for capturing. In other words, you must have paid all the required fees and given a date to come for capturing. It doesn’t matter if the date is after July or August. As long as you applied before July, you can call the phone number provided for your location to apply.

You know the way anything Nigeria works, therefore, make sure you call that number before you travel from your location. Many people will be coming, be prepared to stay over in case they don’t get to you on the first day you visit.

Beware of scam! Some people are already parading as agents of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States. Do not deal with anyone outside of the Embassy/Consulate.
