The Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre (ARSRC) announces the its 2016 Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship (SLDF) Programme. The two-week course is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria from July 10th –23th, 2016.

This course is designed for young professionals in public service, civil society activists, programme officers/ managers in health and social development organizations including media practitioners.

Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship

The Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship (SLDF) addresses historical and contemporary issues and emerging best practice in policy and programming for sexual wellbeing. The fellowship is designed to:

Provide exposure to cutting-edge conceptual, theoretical, policy and programming issues in sexuality, sexual health and sexual rights;
Create a better understanding of the interaction between sexuality, development and social justice including reflections on the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action (ICPD PoA)/ICPD Beyond 2014, and the emerging Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and
Facilitate the emergence of a new generation of leaders in the field through leadership development, teamwork, public speaking and advocacy skills to advance the sexual well-being within communities.

Faculty and Training Methodology

The faculty for the Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship (SLDF) is composed of a multidisciplinary team of experts in the field of sexuality, community leadership, advocacy and public health. The training approach incorporates a variety of participatory training methods that enable participants to acquire hands-on skills to start making a difference in their programmes and organizations. The sessions are structured to promote the sharing of ideas, team building and collaborative work amongst participants with the goal of nurturing relationships that last beyond the fellowship period.

Participants For The 2016 Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship

This course is designed for young professionals in public service, civil society activists, programme officers/ managers in health and social development organizations including media practitioners. Applicants should be aged 35 years or below. Minimum educational qualification required is a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and demonstrable experience/interest in the area of sexuality, sexual health and rights.

The deadline to receive completed applications is May 27, 2015. Please note that this course is conducted in English. The two-week course is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria from July 10th –23th, 2016.

Course Fee and Other Costs

The course fee for the 2016 Sexuality Leadership Development Fellowship two-week programme is US$2,500. Organizations’ sponsoring up to three participants are entitled to discount.

Scholarships/Funding Sources

There are no scholarships from the ARSRC this year. We therefore encourage you to begin approaching donors to sponsor your participation as soon as you submit application. Potential funding sources include the organization you work for, your organization’s donors (some funders will consider travel grants to current grantees) and agencies that fund sexual health and right issues.
