The vice chancellor of the varsity, Prof Nuhu Yaqub, stated that the university will ensure that it excelled beyond expectations. He also informed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had earlier approved 800 students for them.

Noting that the institution would continue to be unique in its staff-student relationship, the VC added that, accountability, prudence, transparency as well as non- tolerance of any act of indiscipline shall continue to be their hallmark.

The VC who further saluted the vision and courage of governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for actualizing the dream, further divulged that, the infrastructures within the new university were commendable ones.

Speaking earlier, Governor Wamakko noted that the decision to establish a state owned university was borne out of the fact that there was the need to provide more opportunities for the youths to get educated massively in a strike and cult free institution, adding that Sokoto has been a centre of learning for decades.
