The Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja has added a twist to the crisis rocking the University by claiming that the aggrieved lecturers in the University are pursuing “Personal Interests”. This was reported by PUNCH today and you can continue reading as reported by PunchNG:
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. James Adelabu, has accused a faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in the institution of pursuing personal ambition.
This pursuit, he argued, was at the root of the crisis rocking the varsity.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Adelabu said, “Beware, they were officers in the first two years of my administration. My bringing other hands on deck made them to be dissatisfied. If you talk of a union, the union should be for welfare.”
The VC said efforts of the new governing council to persuade the faction to shelve their planned strike proved abortive, as they were adamant on disrupting academic activities.
Assuring that academic activities would go on as scheduled, Adelabu said, “At the appropriate time, decisions will be taken on erring lecturers.”
The VC said his effort to sanitise the admission process met with stiff resistance by the few lecturers who were trying to undermine his achievements.
He added that since he assumed office, he had been working hard to clear backlog of results of distance learning students and improving on the infrastructure in the institution.
