UNICAL Best Graduating Student Gets Automatic Employment

The best graduating student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science of the University of Calabar, for the 2011/2012 session Mr. Kareem Jubril has been offered automatic employment as a Graduate Assistant in the University of Calabar as soon as he completes his National Youth Service.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. James Epoke made the offer while declaring close the 10th Induction Oath-taking Ceremony of the 2011/2012 Medical Laboratory Science Graduates which was held at the Varsity’s International Conference Centre.

In an earlier remark, to declare the event open, Prof. Epoke said Unical has been in the fore-front of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria being one of the first Institutions to offer B.SC in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) in the country.

The Vice Chancellor urged the inductees to keep the flag of the University flying noting that the number of inductees is indicative of the level of growth of the Department.

Prof. Epoke advised all stakeholders to take the profession seriously adding that management is trying everything possible to provided facilities and gave assurance of a serious facelift of the entire College of Medical Sciences before the end of his
tenure.

The varsity administrator charged the graduating students to be worthy ambassadors of the Institution and imbibe the culture of excellence and world best practices in their chosen career.

In his remark, the Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) Prof. Anthony O. Emeribe while welcoming all to the event congratulated the Provost of the College of Medical
Sciences, Prof. Saturday J. Etuk and the Dean, Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. (Mrs.) Anne E. Asuquo on their election into the Institution’s Governing Council.

The Registrar observed that each time he had cause to visit the varsity; he sees new things happening and commended the Vice Chancellor and his team for the good work.

The Chief Executive Officer of MLSCN while congratulating the inductees described the event as an honour and a wonderful way for the University and the Council to recognize and celebrate the choices and sacrifices, the inductees have made charging them to be mindful of the fact that the MLSCN will be known and judged by their exemplary character and services.

Prof. Emeribe while admonishing the inductees to keep in touch
with events on the Council website used the opportunity to highlights on Council’s ongoing projects.

Responding on behalf of the inductees, the best graduating student, Mr. Kareem, Jubril Adeyinka expressed the graduands profound gratitude to God for seeing them through and appreciated the love and sacrifices of the school authorities, staff and parents, throughout their stay in the institution.

Mr Kareem pledged the inductees’ commitment and loyalty to their alma mater while promising to be good and worthy ambassadors of the Institution.

The ceremony which had 138 inductees including two from Nnamdi Azikiwe University and University of Nigeria Nsuka saw Mr. Kareem Jubril bag two awards of best all round graduating student, one by the Provost of Medical College and the other by
the Dean, Faculty of Allied Medical sciences, while Miss Ejimkeonye Nnena Cynthia bagged Prof. Lydia Abia Bassey’s award for the best graduating students in Medical Mycology.

Goodwill messages and admonishment poured in for the graduands notably from the Provost College of Medical Sciences, Prof. Saturday J. Etuk, Dean, Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. Anne E. Asuquo and the Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Dr. (Mrs) Josephine O. Akportuzor while prayer for the inductees was offered by the Head, Department of Radiography and Radiological Sciences, Canon (Dr) Nneoyi Egbe.

The event featured an induction lecture on (professional Development and self improvement for Medical Laboratory Scientists and other professional through Continuing Education)delivered by Prof. Monday F. Useh of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
