UNIPORT Emerges NUGA 2014 Games Champion

University of Port Harcourt on Saturday emerged the overall winner of the 24th edition of Nigeria University Games (NUGA), held at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife after pulling a total of 120 medals.

According to the official medals table released late on Saturday, UNIPORT got 63 gold , 41, silver and 16 bronze medals to place first.

Meanwhile, University of Lagos came second with a total of 30 medals-13 gold, 10 silver and seven bronze medals.

Host university, OAU were third with 12 gold, nine silver and 15 bronze medals.

OAU also won the prestigious football medal pipping UNICAL by a lone goal.

Oustanding student-athletes went home with individual prizes.Peace Uko and Augustine Nwoye, both of UNIPORT were adjudged the best woman and man athlete respectively.Other awardees include OAU’s Ayodele Faleti best footballer,ABU’S Timothy Kwor, best basketballer, men, UNILAG’s Vera Angne, best  basketballer, women
