The Provost of the institution’s College of Graduate Studies, Prof. Roseline Konya, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt.

She said the programme was aimed at providing graduates with the broad-based training required to hone their skills for sustainable sports development and recreation in the country.

“The programme will focus on discovering and training young graduates to be able to compete globally and practise professionally in their respective areas of specialisation,’’ the Provost said.

She said the programme also offers graduates the opportunity to acquire knowledge in Sports Broadcasting/Journalism, Sports Marketing, Team Management and Sports Refereeing.

“Post-graduate students will also be trained on Fitness and Recreation, Massage Therapy, Sports Medicine and Statistics.

“The programme will project UNIPORT as a centre for excellence in sports, both in theory, practice and training of future athletes, who will put Nigeria on the global map of sporting activities,” Konya said.

The Provost said the programme would help the university in consolidating on its dominance of sporting activities on the west African coast and sub-Saharan Africa.

She said this was why UNIPORT had won the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) a record five times and were the reigning West African Universities Games (WAUG) champions. (NAN)
