The hope of the authorities of the University of Ilorin to substantially reduce the hostel accommodation challenges on the campus may soon come to fruition as a private developer has vowed to complete the construction of a 1000-room hostel facility in the institution by August 2014.
This news was broken to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu
Ambali, and members of his management team last ednesday
(June 5, 2013) by the Managing Director of Alpha-Morgan Capital,
Mr. Ade Buraimoh.
Mr. Buraimoh, who was briefing the University management on
the progress made on the project, disclosed that the company had decided to scale up the initial plan of 300 rooms to 3,000 rooms, which he explained would be completed in three phases.
He pointed out that the first phase of 1,000 rooms will be ready for use by August next year.

Mr. Buraimoh disclosed that the proposed hostel buildings will
consist of three floors for undergraduate students and four floors for postgraduate students.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor commended the effort of the company, saying that the University was anxiously awaiting the commencement of the project.
Prof. Ambali assured Mr. Braimoh that the University management was making efforts to provide utilities on the campus, pointing out that plans were on going to expand water supply on the campus and to have a dedicated line from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to guarantee regular electricity supply.
The Vice-Chancellor however told the developer that the University has a tradition of not having abandoned projects.
He maintained that apart from being known for its academic
excellence, the University of Ilorin also wants to be known for having good aesthetic environment and charged the investor to use the hostel project to add aesthetic value to the University.
