WAEC denies fake news circulating on social media about the alleged cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

WAEC Denies Fake News on 2025 Exam Cancellation

On Saturday, 19 July 2025, a fraudulent press release began circulating online, claiming that WAEC and the Federal Ministry of Education had cancelled the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates due to alleged exam malpractice and mass leakage of question papers. The false report suggested that the cancellation was nationwide and final.

WAEC has now responded, clearly stating that the report is entirely false and did not originate from the Council or any legitimate source.

In an official statement, WAEC noted that:

“No such decision was made. The Council did not release any statement regarding exam cancellation. This is a deliberate attempt by mischief-makers to mislead the public and tarnish the image of WAEC.”

Marking Completed, Results Coming Soon

WAEC denied fake news about exam cancellation and confirmed that marking of all scripts has been completed, and results will be released by Monday, 4 August 2025. Students who participated in the 2025 WASSCE should prepare to check their results through the official WAEC result-checking platforms.

The Council urges candidates and stakeholders to remain calm and disregard any unofficial information regarding exam outcomes.

Trust Only Official WAEC Channels | WAEC Denies Fake News

WAEC reiterated that all credible information about the conduct, status, or results of WASSCE comes through its verified channels:

  • WAEC Nigeria official website
  • Verified WAEC social media pages (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram)
  • Public Affairs Department of WAEC
  • Trusted national newspapers and educational news platforms

If any news does not originate from these verified platforms, it should be considered false.

Final Word from WAEC

WAEC has advised candidates, parents, and schools to disregard the fake release. The 2025 WASSCE was conducted successfully, with no nationwide cancellations reported. The exam body is taking steps to track the origin of the false document and warns the public against spreading misinformation.

“Students and parents should stay informed through proper channels. Misinformation only creates unnecessary panic and distrust,” WAEC concluded.
