ASUU Strike Suspended, Union Directs Lecturers to Resume

ASUU Strike Suspended 2019, to resume 29th February, 2019. Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has announced a conditional suspension of the strike they embarked upon in 2018.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday has announced suspension of its three-month strike. The union directed lecturers to resume duty from February 12.

The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), after a series of meetings, finally reached an agreement yesterday on contending issues, which led to the three months’ industrial action.

The strike was called off after a two hour meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.

Ngige said after the meeting that eight areas of disagreements were discussed and agreed upon by the two parties, while expressing gratitude to ASUU leadership for their understanding.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has now directed its members to return to classrooms with immediate effect.

ASUU President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, however, warned that the union would not hesitate to resume the action, if government failed to meet its own part of the agreement.
