Will Schools Conduct Post-UTME For 2020/2021 Admission?

Will some schools (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges) conduct Post-UTME screening for 2020/2021 admission? This is a question on the minds of some admission seekers who are waiting for admission to commence. Sadly, the answer to this question is not known.

One would have thought that the pronouncement by the Minister of Education in 2017 about FG’s decision to scrap Post-UTME answered this question. This is however not true. After going through this article, one can only conclude that the Federal Government only stopped making Post-UTME mandatory.

Will Schools Conduct Post-UTME For 2020/2021 Admission? Which Ones?

There are two sections of the statement made by the Minister that one should look at if we attempt to find answer to the question. We believe there are schools that will conduct Post-UTME screening for 2020/2021. Which schools? One cannot say for sure because this is up to different schools to determine what they want to do.

It is also not commonplace to see schools who would conduct Post-UTME this year and not conduct the next academic session. See details of all school’s Post-UTME here!

Let’s look at this part of the Minister’s statement that says;

The government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.

I would say this is telling us that Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Agriculture in Nigeria now have the autonomy to decide if they are conducting Post-UTME screening or not. So, I want to believe that some school will conduct Post-UTME while other may not.

To show you that schools do determine if they want to conduct Post-UTME or not, see the quote below. EBSU did not conduct a Post-UTME screening for the 2018/2019 academic session.

There will be no written examination as part of EBSU admission screening for the 2018/2019 academic session. A guideline that describes how admission will be done has been released
