The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Ado Tenebe has urged Nigerians who are with requisite qualifications irrespective of age and status but could not be absorbed by the conventional universities to study their dream courses to come to NOUN for their programmes.
He said open and distance learning as being run by NOUN was not only more convenience and flexible, the institution was also offering quality education that make its products globally competitive.
Tenebe stated this in his remark while receiving an excellence award on organic agriculture during the International Summer School on Organic Agriculture at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNNAB), Ogun State, recently.
The award, which was organised by the Organic Agriculture Project in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria (OAPTIN), was in recognition of Tenebe’s strong contribution to organic agriculture in Nigeria.
Speaking about his award, presented by FUNNAB’s VC, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, Tenebe expressed happiness for the honour and promised to continue to lift the cause of organic agriculture and farming generally in and outside Nigeria.
FUNNAB’s vice-chancellor in his address said Nigeria was making tremendous improvement in organic farming and that professional farmers should therefore intensify efforts to further push the achievement forward.
The keynote speaker, Prof. Adewole Dipeolu in his lecture, titled: “Developing and operating organic businesses,” pointed out that organic farming as an alternative method of food production was fast acceptable in countries around the world.
He said the effort was to produce food items that would be better and safer than those produced through what he called harmful agrochemicals and inorganic fertilizers (Via: National Mirror).
