Suspected Rapists Invade UNIOSUN Hostels, Rape 3 Female Students

Suspected rapists invade Osun State University hostels, rape 3 female students

Undergraduates of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) residing  off main campus of the institution in Osogbo are now subjected to perpetual fear as some suspected bandits attacked their hostels last Sunday and allegedly raped three female students.

Credible source informed the Nigerian Tribune that the hoodlums, numbering about 12, attacked  students in three hostels located at Oke Baale area, a few metres away from the main campus of the institution and had carnal knowledge of three female students, after dispossessing them of their belongings, while male students, who did not have money were mercilessly beaten and stabbed.

Nigerian Tribune reliably gathered that the hostels attacked by the hoodlums include: Aso Villa Hostel, Diamond Hostel, Marvellous Hostel.

The hoodlums, who were said to be armed with dangerous weapons, launched the attack that spanned  a few hours simultaneously and made away with various items, including undisclosed sums of money, laptops, phones, accessories among others.

This  development sparked off protest as some students locked the main gate of the institution on Monday and Tuesday,  thus preventing lecturers and staffers from gaining entrance into the campus.

The students lamented that before the Sunday incident, students residing outside the campus of the institution had  been attacked several times in the past, regretting that despite the increase in the number of attacks in recent times, the management had failed  to protect the vulnerable students.

Some of those who spoke under condition of anonymity, tasked the management of the institution to find a lasting solution to the security challenge facing students residing outside the campus to checkmate future occurrence of such attacks.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the instituion, Mr Marcus Awobifa, observed that the management received the news of the incident with shock, pointing out that  because the hostels were located outside the campus, the institution’s management could not do much in providing security.

He assured that the management and the leadership of the institution’s Parents/ Teachers Association (PTA) would act on the matter to forestall future occurrence. Source: Tribune Newspaper
