The Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Shamsudeen O. O. Amali, OFR, FSONTA, F.Inst.GLT, on behalf of the University Community, hereby expresses deep regrets over the recent happenings that led to the death of two students on the federal highway.

The closure of the university by the Senate was taken in the best interest of the students to ensure their safety. He further regrets that the protest on the federal highway against shortage of water supply in Keffi town embarked upon by few students staying off-campus was hijacked by some hoodlums.

The incident is regrettable because the off-campus students rejected the water supplied to them by the university through water tankers, insisting on having pipe-borne water.

He regrets that the protest took place on the federal highway while the majority of the students on campus were fully engaged in the classrooms. In addition, the university relies on the goodwill and support of the general public to maintain its leadership as a peaceful, stable and foremostcentre of learning.

The University Senate has already set up a committee to fully investigate the matter. Furthermore, appropriate measures are being taken to re-openthe university as soon as possible.
