The Delta State University, Abraka, also known as “DELSU,” was established on April 28, 1992, with the goal of offering higher education to Deltans in particular and anybody else looking for a top-notch tertiary learning experience.
Before Nigeria attained independence in 1960, the university was founded as a government teacher training college that offered the Grade II Certificate (TC II).
For the purpose of awarding the Nigerian Certificate of Education, it transformed into a college of education (NCE).
Up until the early 1990s, the College offered degree and postgraduate degree programs through affiliations with Temple University in the United States of America and the Universities of Benin, Benin City.
More About Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU)
Bendel State was founded in 1976, and Bendel State University, Ekpoma, followed in 1980. The College later evolved into the Bendel State University’s Faculty of Education.
The facility was integrated to become a campus of the now-defunct Bendel State University, Ekpoma, in 1985. It maintained this status until August 1991, when Delta and Edo States were broken off from the former Bendel State.
This development undoubtedly sparked a vigorous campaign to build a state-owned university for the Deltans who were so eager to further their education.
As a result, the Delta State University, Abraka was formed by proclamation on April 30, 1992, by the first Executive Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru. The law’s establishment clause, which declared the University to be a legal entity, is set down below.
